How To Create A Website for Affiliate Marketing (Part 1)

How To Create A Website for Affiliate Marketing

Starting an affiliate website is a great way to make money online.

It’s especially great because it feels excellent to make money while creating a resource that people actually get some value from.

If you haven’t explored it yet, creating affiliate marketing websites is a legitimate business model that can make you thousands of dollars per month in affiliate commissions.

In this post, you’re going to be taken through all of the steps required to:

  1. Pick a topic to create your website around
  2. Setup the hosting domain and other tools required
  3. Start your affiliate website

Let’s dive in.

What Is Your Website Going To Be About? : Niche Selection

Niche Ideas

In this guide, you’re going to learn all about creating your very first affiliate website.

Maybe you have created websites in the past before, but they weren’t affiliate websites, or maybe you have just played around with the idea of having your own website.

The very first thing you need to think about has nothing to do with hosting, or domain names, or website software. All those things matter, of course, but it’s not the first thing you should be thinking about.

The first thing you have to decide on is what your website is going to be about. And because we have the goal of earning money with affiliate marketing, we have to be more careful about this decision than normal.

“The riches are in the niches”

You might have heard this saying before. I’m not sure who said it first, but I would like to shake their hand because it’s one of the most realistic quotes around when it comes to affiliate marketing.

“Niching-down” as it’s called means you focus your energy serving a smaller group of people.

This makes it easier to:

  1. Find the people
  2. Figure out what their exact pain points are
  3. Deliver it to them in a way that makes them feel like you truly understand them

Because you aren’t trying to deliver something to a broad group with mixed interests and problems, you can get really targeted and speak to your niche in a way that is honest, and helpful.

This is where you will find massive traction quickly.

Niches within niches (within niches)

Imagine you wanted to target the fitness niche.

To me, that is too broad. Ask pretty much anyone and they’d say they do have a desire to be fit.

It’s hard to make a site that targets everyone because how do you get people to it without spending bucket loads of money?

What you need to understand is there are niches within niches and it’s cheaper and easier to target these than a broader niche.

The “Fitness” niche can break down even further:

  1. Weight-loss
  2. Healthy eating
  3. Exercise
  4. Muscle building
  5. Cardio
  6. Pilates
  7. Yoga

This breaks up the fitness niche into more targeted segments. Niches within niches.

Can you go even further?

Sure. Let’s look at “Cardio”.

You have lots of different kinds of cardio:

  1. Walking
  2. Long distance running
  3. Swimming
  4. Cycling
  5. Cardio exercises you can do at home
  6. Circuit training
  7. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
  8. Rowing
  9. Jump-rope
  10. Boxing

Don’t go too deep

Focusing yourself on a particular niche can really help you target people.

For example, building a site around the niche of Rowing For Fitness.

You can even niche that further like Rowing For Weight-loss which would give you some lateral movement to complementary topics like diet.

But a warning…

Don’t go too deep with your niche selection.

Rowing For Post-Menopausal Women In Australia is a niche that just won’t have enough people to target.

Make sure it has future affiliate opportunities

You also want to make sure that the niche you select has affiliate opportunities.

Think about those people and if you can’t immediately think of at least 4 or 5 types of products they might want to purchase, it might be worth considering other niches.

Take a look at some of End 2020 hot niche ideas

If you really want to validate that there are existing affiliate opportunities you can sign up to some affiliate networks or look for particular products that you could review for that niche and verify that you can get paid for recommending them online.

It doesn’t hurt to do this extra step and it will take you less than an hour in most cases to get confirmation about whether there is something to promote or not.

It’s pretty cheap insurance to spend 1-hour finding products to promote as opposed to spending hundreds of hours building a site and then having no options for promotion after all that work.

Step By Step: Building Your First Website

You didn’t skip the niche selection step, right? Good.

Now you’re ready to actually take some action and build your first website.

Let’s take a note of what you need:

  • A domain name
  • A web host
  • Content Management Software – basically WordPress – it is one of the largest
  • A content plan

Easy right? It’s only 4 things!

All 4 can be found all in one place. Easy and Convenient

I’m going to recommend a domain name provider and a web host for you and the links below will be affiliate links, so I will get credited if you choose to start an account with them.

If you don’t like my recommendation that is totally ok, no hurt feelings! I strongly suggest you do your own research anyway. It’s a big internet out there with literally thousands of web hosts and domain name providers.

My motivation is to make this as easy for you as possible by recommending a host that I’ve personally worked with many times over the years and I know to be beginner friendly.

Do I use this hosting company myself? Yes

WA hosting is a website hosting called SiteRubix is very competitive on price, and features a 1-click install of WordPress (very important for de-complicating the whole thing). Also, includes SSL on every site. Literally this takes about 30 seconds.

People are running million dollar businesses on our platforms.

You can pick up hosting for less than $50 USD a month for up to 10 websites. If you are just looking at the price for hosting it is an awesome deal plus each domain hosted will come with SSL certificate!

Let me ask you… what was the last thing you spent $50 on? Was it on something that could grow that $50 into much more? Or was it on something you’ll use once or never see/use again? We tend to spend more than $50 per month at Walmart on just stuff. Time to use that same amount and invest in yourself.

Domain Provider

Now that you know which niche you are going into you need to pick a great memorable web address or domain. One that is going to compliment and more importantly help brand you with in your chosen niche.

One of the best providers around is going to be with in the Site Rubix platform. For only $13.99 per year, no upsells and you get a ton of features included that other domain providers charge you for. Yep, no upsells!!

Below you can try it out. Just put in what you want your domain to be

So let’s recap for a minute before I wrap up part 1.

Hosting will cost you just $49.00 per month or if you go yearly it will be an even better savings at $495 for the year.

Domain name with all the goodies above like email accounts, ssl etc only $13.99 per year.

This will also give you all the knowledge and training to become an affiliate marketer. You will also get an additional 52 classes in affiliate marketing by experts in the field. Plus included is Jaaxy Lite ($19 month) this is an affiliate marketers keyword tool.

That is basically it, that is all you have to spend in order to start a business online. Do the math, what does a brick and mortar business cost just in the rental or lease space per month? Plus once you have your own online presence the financial gains are out of this world. Thanks to the internet and the affiliate business model the sky really is the limit. You will not only be able to have financial well-being but also time freedom.

Stay tuned for part 2 when I will be going into content creation and putting the pieces together.

Starting your own online business really is easier than it ever was and the timing of 2020 couldn’t be a better time to take control of your future.

  1. Nice and easy to read guide. I am sure it will be very helpful for people that just start affiliate marketing or just want to create a new blog. From my side I can affirm how good WA is. Even if you are not interested in affiliate marketing WA is an excellent platform to build your website on and it provides all the tools and support you will need in order to create the website you dream. I haven’t seen another platform so full of features like WA.

    • Totally agree Wealthy Affiliate is so much more than just affiliate training. It really is training for any type of website whether it be affiliate marketing, ecommerce or service related.

  2. That was a very good breakdown to understand how to create a website. It can be hard sometimes to add great content to the website, however, you have many tools on the internet that help you understand how to add different things to your website in order to make it better.

I understand now how important is to choose a niche you love. Otherwise, you will be struggling on creating content for choosing something you don’t know that much. Also, I liked that you mention that we need to make sure we have a great nice with many affiliate opportunities. I have read some cases where people try to apply but the get rejects and doesn’t have opportunities in any other affiliate network. Anyways, great article.

Thank you for this useful information.

    • Research is so very important when it comes to finding a niche. Especially if you are going to be using affiliate programs within that niche. Like you said sometimes you will get rejected so never have all your eggs in one basket.

  3. Thank you for this comprehensive article on how to break down niches. I tend to choose niches that are too broad when I start a website, then it takes even longer to make money with these types of niches as there is so much competition out there.

The only upside to choosing a broad niche is that you never run out of ideas for content to write.

I also didn’t realise the difference in prices for domains, and the benefits of getting a domain at Wealthy Affiliate are second to none, considering all the benefits you get with the domain that you purchase.

    • Glad you found the domain comparison informative. A lot of folks do not realize they pick a domain provider because the see the low price at first glance then are shocked at checkout when the figure out all the extras cost money. That is what I love about the domain service at Wealthy Affiliate,no extra charges for the extras.

  4. Hi, this was an interesting read for me. Honestly, I cannot agree less with you concerning the claim that “riches are in the niches”. It took me almost two weeks to get myself a worthy niche to focus my website on and I can say I was able to reduce drastically the competition I face in my chosen niche. Thanks

    • Picking the right niche definitely takes a little planning and research. I see too many that just pick something out of thin air and than have no idea how to write about it or find affiliate programs that fit.
