The concept of working from home in your pajamas though sounds great, actually has the opposite effect. If you are going to work from home than you have to take it seriously. If you do not dress well and you are still in your PJ’s at noon just what are you telling the universe or your clients for that matter. Dress well and take pride in what you are trying to do! With the increase of Zoom meetings and virtual interactions think what kind of image you project. One of professionalism or a what ever approach. Trust me this makes a difference.

P.S. You will also find that you are more productive as a result.

Tip # 2 Schedule Your Home Business Like a Job But Treat It Like A Passion

This tip is two fold, let me explain. In order to set yourself up for success and be different from the crowd you have to set schedules, almost like you have a 9 to 5 job. Especially the first year you will have to set a rigid schedule and adhere to it. That means you have to have the mindset of working to succeed. The easiest way to do this is by following a schedule. Plan to take regular breaks and take a regular lunch, just like if you were going to an office job. Set you a calendar if it helps but Adhere to it!!

Do not do anything too personal during your breaks that would stop or deter you from getting back to work when your break is over. Don’t let family distractions get in the way. Yes do take care if needed but do not let it distract. Let them know that interruptions will impede your productivity. They will understand, if they see that you are serious about it.

I said this tip was two fold so here is the other side of this tip. When you are working treat it like it was and is your passion! Do not do any home based business because of the money, if that is your only reason – You will fail! If you are passionate about what you are doing and what you are trying to accomplish than the time you do spend working will not seem like work at all!! The money is important absolutely but if it is your only reason than you will fail.

Tip # 3 Self Discipline

This should go without saying but worth saying. If you want to have a home based business you have to be self disciplined. You have to be accountable for yourself!! Focus and write down your goals. When we write down our goals we are more likely to achieve them. Revisit your goals at least once a week it will help you stay focused.

Tip # 4 Keep Moving Forward

It is really easy to procrastinate and take a day off whenever, and I am guilty of this myself. However, in order to be successful you must do something with your home business every day. Consistent forward progress no matter how big or small will get you to that finish line before you know it. Remember the tortoise and the hare. Keep moving forward.

Tip # 5 Create Goals Both Long Term and Short

This is one of the best tips I ever got from another entrepreneur friend of mine. Most of us when we start out in home businesses’ whether offline or online have a long term goal in mind. What most do not however have short term goals. Why is that important? Because when you can break your long term goal into shorter chunks or short goals, it becomes less overwhelming. Make those goals realistic so they are achievable. The reason for this is boils down to mindset. As you start to achieve more and more of your short term goals you start getting the feelings of achievement! It will also give your self-esteem much needed boosts along the way.

A bonus tip – Make sure to celebrate your achievements, even the small ones.

Tip # 6 Create a Separate Office Space

This will allow you to more easily cut down on distractions. Create a room if you can away from family and interruptions. It is better for productivity. It could even be out in the garage (remember Steve Jobs started Apple in his garage) The ideal would be an extra room that is no longer being used with a door that closes. You will want to keep this space neat and organized as well. Maybe a few plants and a radio. Low music while working is great for keeping the mind clear.

Tip # 7 Unless It Benefits Your Business – Stay Off Social Media

One of the biggest time killers is social media. Think about it, how much TIME WASTE do you spend on Facebook or Instagram ? How much pointless gossip do you engage in when you are on those social media platforms? Now don’t get me wrong here social media does have its place and I can write many ways that it has helped us stay up to date on stuff. But the time we waste on social media could be time spent towards our goals ,dreams and vision.

If you are going to use it to benefit your business and it does absolutely help when you are building your brand and interacting with potential clients. Remember a few things. First – Set yourself a timer for social media and adhere to it! If you are going to be on a social platform for 30 minutes than keep it at 30 minutes! Second while on the platform remember you are there for your business, your brand. So give value, nobody, especially family and friends like to be sold to constantly! GIVE Your Audience VALUE.

Tip # 8 Listen To Your Potential Customers or Clients, Then Deliver A Solution To Their Needs

If you can master how to do this tip effectively you will go far in any business or venture that you get into. This relates to the one above. Do not just sell you must add value. If you can give someone a potential solution to their problem than you will not only build a rapport but also TRUST!
